Lincoln -- The 53rd-ranked women's tennis team defeated Colorado State 6-1, behind a pair of wins from freshman Gitte Ostermann. The Huskers improve to 6-1 on the season.
In No. 1 singles, Ostermann defeated Sanja Jansson, 6-4, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Ostermann teamed up with Katarina Balan to defeat Amanda Bartz and Bobbe Vasos, 8-1. Ostermann ranked No. 55 improved to 4-0 on the season.
No. 2 singles, Balan defeated Bartz, 6-1, 6-2 to improve to 6-1 on the season. No. 3 singles, Leslie Harvey defeated Catherine Sullivan, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Amy Frisch playing No. 4 singles defeated Vasos, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. No. 6 singles Rose Ketmayura defeated Alexandra Paganetti, 6-1, 6-1.
The only Huskers to suffer defeated was No. 5 singles, Anne Oehme, dropped both sets losing 6-2, 6-4. In doubles action, No. 1 Harvey and Ketmayura defeated Hansson and Sullivan, 8-3. No. 3 doubles Stacey Tomkiewicz and Oehme defeated Paganetti and Zhurin, 8-2.
"I thought we played hard today. Colorado State is better than their record shows," said Head Coach Scott Jacobson. "We got off to a great start in the doubles matches, and everybody played at a good level."
Nebraska returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 24, when they host Northern Iowa at the Woods Tennis Center.
