Lincoln -- Nebraska's upset bid of 10th ranked Texas fell short as the Longhorns defeated the Huskers 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Woods Tennis Center. The loss drops Nebraska to 1-1 in the Big 12 conference and 3-1 overall. The Longhorns raised their record to 1-0 in the Big 12 conference and overall.
In No. 1 singles, freshman Gitte Osterman upset 19th ranked Vladka Uhlirova, 6-2, 7-5.
"I just went onto the court today and played my game." said Osterman "I tried not to make very many mistakes and I came out with the win." added Osterman
In No. 2 singles senior Katarina Balan defeated Joanne Masongsong, 6-4, 2-1 before Masongsong retired in the fourth set. No. 4 singles, senior Amy Frisch lost to Kaysie Smashey, 6-2, 6-1.
"The team played really good today. Everybody worked hard, Texas was just a little better today." said Frisch
In other singles action playing No. 5, Anne Oehme suffered a defeat to . No. 6 singles Rose Ketmayura suffered her first lost of the season losing to Rebekah Forney, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles action, No. 1 doubles Leslie Harvey and Rose Ketmayura lost to Uhlirova and Ziva Grasic, 8-1. No. 2 doubles Balan lost to Smashey and Blau, 8-3. No. 3 doubles Osterman and Oehme lost a hard fought match to Forney and Katarina Ruckert, 9-7.
Nebraska will be in action next weekend, when the Huskers take on Wyoming and Southwest Missouri State at the Woods Tennis Center.
