Lincoln - Coming off the most successful season in school history, the Nebraska baseball team will host three season preview parties in January.
Sponsored by the Home Run Club, all three events are free to the public and complimentary food and soft drinks will be served. Each event will feature a showing of the 2001 highlight video, season outlooks by the Husker coaching staff, a silent auction and door prizes. In addition, posters, schedule cards, season ticket and booster club information will be available.
The first of the three previews will take place at DJ's Dugout in Omaha (636 N. 114th Street) on Saturday, January 12 from 1-3 p.m. The next day, the Huskers will head to Grand Island for the first time, as the preview will take place at Platte Duetsche (1315 W. Anne Street) from 2-4 p.m. The final preview will take place in Lincoln at the Country Inn & Suites (5353 N. 27th Street) on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
The Huskers are ranked 13th in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll and return five starting position players and 10 pitchers from a squad that swept the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles.
The 2001 season opens on Feb. 15, when the Huskers travel to Houston, Texas, for the Holiday Inn Crowne-Plaza/Rice Invitational, where they will square off with New Mexico, the host Owls and Wake Forest, who are ranked 12th and 16th, respectively, in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll. The Huskers open their home schedule on March 5, when NU plays host to Nebraska-Kearney. As of today, nearly 3,750 season tickets have been sold for the first season at Haymarket Park.
