NU Holds Intrasquad Meet

Lincoln - Nebraska Women's Gymnastics Coach Dan Kendig announced Monday that the Huskers will hold an intrasquad meet on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers will perform on every apparatus, starting with vault and progressing to bars, beam and concluding with floor. The scrimmage is free to the public and autographs and schedule cards will be available following the competition. Doors open at 6 p.m., and spectators are encouraged to enter under the south ramp.

Nebraska returns nine letterwinners, including All-Americans Gina Bruce (Champlin, Minn.), Jen French (Greensboro, N.C.), Tami Harris (Virginia Beach, Va.), Julie Houk (Hamilton, Ohio), Alecia Ingram (Knoxville, Tenn.) and A.J. Lamb (Lincoln, Neb.), from last season's team that reached the Super Six Finals for the fourth time in five years.

Last year the Huskers finished with a 26-7-1 record, reclaimed the Big 12 title and captured their second consecutive regional title, en route to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. NU returns five athletes who earned All-America honors last season, while adding sophomore transfer Richelle Simpson (Toronto, Ontario) and freshman Carrie Gloudemans (Neenah, Wis.).

Nebraska opens its 2002 schedule on Jan. 6, when the team travels to Athens, Ga., to face NCAA runner-up Georgia. The Huskers open their home schedule Sunday, Jan. 13, against Iowa.
