Eugene, Ore. -- Nebraska senior Melissa Price finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 217-4 at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 22, securing the Husker a spot on the United States track and field team that will compete in the World Outdoor Track and Field Championships Aug. 3-12. She recorded the mark on her sixth and final throw. "It's wonderful," Price said. "Last year, I didn't even make the finals and I threw terrible. This year, I have been trying to work hard and salvage last year. I wanted to make the most of this year." Price, who redshirted for Nebraska during the outdoor season, won the 20-pound weight throw title at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, before finishing fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championships. In the shot put, Nebraska sophomore Leann Boerema placed 10th with a mark of 48-2 1/2. She recorded the mark on her first throw. Also competing last weekend was Husker sophomore Shelley-Ann Brown, who finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (13.59) at the Canadian Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. Brown also took sixth in the 100 meters (11.79). |
