Young Huskers Finish 16th and 20th in Discus at NCAAs

Eugene, Ore -- Nebraska sophomore Jennifer Cowher placed 16th in the discus with a mark of 145-1, while Husker freshman Emily Duran placed 20th in the event with a toss of 137-5 on Wednesday, May 30, at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Both Cowher, from Alliance, Neb., and Duran, from Nebraska City, Neb., posted their best marks on their third of three throws. Neither qualified for the finals.

Idaho senior Katja Schreiber won the event with a mark of 197-11. Colorado State senior Liz Toman finished second with a mark of 184-5.

Other Huskers slated to compete at the NCAA outdoor meet are: Leann Boerema in the shot put (Thursday); Shaun Kologinczak in the high jump (Thursday); Emily Waibel in the 100-meter hurdles (Thursday, Friday, Saturday); Carrie Braness in the high jump (Saturday); Sheldon Hutchinson in the triple jump (Saturday); and Katherine Livesey in the heptathlon (Friday, Saturday).
