Junior Sarah Sasse fired a three-over 75 in the final round of the 2001 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, Friday, at the El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Sasse finished tied for 72nd at 22-over par for the tournament.
Georgia edged out Duke by three strokes to take the team title at 24-over-par. Individually, Candy Hanneman of Duke defeated Arizona's Lorena Ochoa in a playoff after both finished tied at three-under for the tournament.
Sasse, who started her round on the 10th hole, took par on 12 of her first 13 holes of the day before taking bogies on holes five, six and seven.
"Her ball striking was still off," Head Coach Robin Krapfl said. "I think a lot of it had to do with the different (Bermuda) grass down here. She really didn't adjust to it."
The Lincoln High product finished her round strong with her lone birdie of the day on the par-four ninth.
"I know that she didn't finish as high as she would have liked, but it was a great experience for her," Krapfl said. "Hopefully it will carry over to next year."
