NU Men Finish 1st, Women Take 3rd at Jim Click Shootout

Tucson, Ariz. - The Nebraska men's track and field team placed first and the NU women took third, as the Huskers competed against Arizona, Georgia and Oklahoma at the Jim Click Shootout at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Saturday. Nebraska posted the highest combined team score at the meet, which was part of the U.S. Collegiate Track and Field Series.

Senior All-American sprinter Chris Chandler led the Husker men by sweeping both the 100- and 200-meter dahes, including an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 20.83 in the 200-meters. In his first 100-meter dash of the spring, Chandler won the event with a time of 10.35.

Also taking a pair of individual titles on the men's side was freshman Frank Tolen. The Manassas, Va., native posted leaps of 48-3 1/2 and 23-3 3/4 in the triple and long jumps, respectively.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team tallied an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 39.62, the second-best time in school history.

On the women's side, sophomore Krisztina Kovesi took first in the triple jump (41-4 1/4), while sophomore Emily Wolken finished in the top spot in the javelin throw (143-6).

Posting an NCAA provisional mark for the NU women was freshman Ann Gaffigan in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:02.93). The women's steeplechase is an NCAA event for the first time this year.

Husker senior Carrie Braness also notched a provisional mark with a second-place finish in the high jump (6-0). Also recording a provisional mark for Nebraska was Leann Boerema, who placed second in the shot put with a mark of 50-6 3/4.

Other first place finishers for the Husker men were sophomore Mike Kamm in the 1,500-meters (3:53.88); senior Aaron Carrizales in the 3,000-meters (8:44.34); and sophomore Mike Josephson in the javelin throw (207-10).
