Nebraska Men's Tennis Team Lose Close Dual

Houston, Texas -- The Nebraska men's tennis team dropped a close dual against Rice Saturday, losing 3-4.

At the No. 1 spot, Richard Barker of Rice defeated Nebraska senior Jorge Abos Sanchez, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. Senior Lance Mills defeated William Barker, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot, while senior Adnan Hedzialic defeated Matthias Matheais, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot. Junior Fungai Tongoona lost to Vuk Rejevac, 6-3, 6-4, while at the No. 5 spot, senior Kai Rieke defeated Fabian Giravd 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, and at the No. 6 spot, senior Ryan Haith lost to Cody Jackson 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, Hadzialic and Tongoona lost to Barker and Barker, 8-2 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot Mills and Abos Sanchez were defeated by Rajevac and Giravd, while Rice's Matheas and Jackson defeated Rieke and Haith, 8-5.

"Disappointing loss, but we need to bounce back and stay focused," Head Coach Kerry McDermott. "We are determined to keep working harder."

Nebraska is now 3-1 and will face Northern Iowa on Feb. 17, in Des Moines.
