Huskers End Conference Season on High Note

Lincoln, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska swimming and diving team swept the Missouri Tigers Saturday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool.

The Huskers defeated Missouri 130-112, taking home eight of 13 events.

The Husker women were led once again by senior Beth Kariaca. Kariaca had a hand in NU's winning 200-yard medley relay and also pulled in a pair of individual victories in the 50- (23.61) and 100-yard freestyle (51.88). Freshman Jackie Lobdell continued to perform well by taking home the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:01.82.

Freshman Carmen Cosgrove won her first event as a Husker, the 100-yard fly, touching the wall in 57.25. Cosgrove arrived on campus this week from Perth, Australia, and saw her first action of the season this weekend.

Sophomore Lindsey Highstrom also had a hand in the winning 200-yard medley relay as well as winning the 200-yard IM (2:07.00). Freshman Rebecca Wolfe chipped in with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:23.99. Sophomore Keri Hehn also was an individual winner for the Huskers, capturing the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.67.

The sweep closed out the Big 12 regular-season for the Huskers. NU is next in action Friday night when Georgia visits the Devaney Center Pool for a 7 p.m. meet. The Georgia women are the reigning women's NCAA champion.
