Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska swimming and diving team dealt conference foe Kansas a loss Friday night and the Bob DevaneySports Center Pool.
The Huskers were led by Senior All-American Beth Karaica, who won two events in leading Nebraska to a 125-118 victory over the KU women.
For the Huskers (6-3, 3-0), Karaica won the 50- (23.53) and 100- (51.58) yard freestyle events and aided Nebraska to a victory in the 200-yard Medley Relay (1:45.07). On the day five different Husker women each won an individual event. Sophomore All-American Lindsey Highstrom won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.86) for Nebraska. Freshmen Jackie Lobdell, Rebecca Wolfe, Kristen Souppa and Barbara Auer each won titles in 1,000-yard freestyle (10:10.17), 200-yard butterfly (2:01.78), 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.63) and 200-yard backstroke (2:02.38) respectively.
The swimming and diving team will be in action tomorrow Jan. 27, 2001 at 1 pm at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool when the Huskers take on Big 12 conference foe Missouri. Saturday's meet will be the last home meet for five Husker seniors. There will be a special pre-meet recognition for the seniors beginning 1 pm.
