Huskers Defeat Cyclones in the Pool

Ames, Iowa -- The University of Nebraska swimming and diving

team downed Iowa State Saturday afternoon in Ames. The Huskers defeated the Cyclones 130-113.

The Husker women won eight of the 13 events contested, with senior

All-American and co-captain Beth Karaica and freshman Jackie Lobdell each

capturing two events. Karaica took home titles in the 50- (23.41) and

100-yard (52.07) freestyle events, as well has having a hand in winning the

200-yard medley relay.

Lobdell earned victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.82) and touched the

wall in 2:04.20 to win the 200-yard backstroke.

Jerilyn Drummond (One-meter; 259.73), Elvira Fischer (200-yard breaststroke;

2:13.04) and Lauren Seymour (500-yard freestyle; 5:07.48) also won

individual events for the Huskers, as the improve their record to 4-2 and

1-0 in the Big 12.

The Nebraska swimming and diving team will be in action again next weekend

with the women taking on No. 15 SMU and No. 24 Texas A&M Friday and

Saturday.
