Nebraska's Anderson Finalist For Honda Award

Husker junior midfielder Meghan Anderson was named one of five finalists on Tuesday for the 2000-2001 Honda Award, given annually to the top woman collegiate soccer athlete. Anderson, an NSCAA first-team All-American, finished the season with 39 points on 12 goals and 15 assists as the Huskers finished 22-2-0.

Also a first-team All-Big 12 selection, Anderson has now scored 103 points on 38 goals and 36 assists in her career. If she continues her pace, Anderson will eclipse Lindsay Eddleman's career mark of 127 points sometime next season.

An Omaha, Neb., native, Anderson's nine multiple-goal games rank fourth in Husker history, while her 36 assists put her second. Anderson, who as a Missouri Athletic Club National Player-of-the-Year finalist, earned offensive player-of-the-week honors from the conference on Aug. 28. She was also named to the Big 12 All-Tournament team.

The Soccer Honda Award winner, announced Dec. 19, will become a nominee for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which is awarded annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate woman athlete at the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Banquet on June 11, 2001, in Salt Lake City during NACDA convention.

The other finalists are North Carolina's Meredith Florance, Notre Dame's Anne Makinen, UCLA's Tracey Milburn and Penn State's Christie Welsh.
