Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska senior tennis player Jorge Abos Sanchez won the second round of the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships in Stone Mountain, Ga. On Wednesday, Abos Sanchez pounded No. 7 seed Cesar Obeita from New Mexico State, 6-2, 6-0, at the Lincoln Tennis Center. The win advances Abos Sanchez to Thursday's round of 32 where he will meet Scotty Scott at 8 a.m. Abos Sanchez's fall record is now 6-1 in singles competition.
In other men's tennis action, Husker senior Kai Rieke and freshman Jose Rivera will compete in the singles division in the 2000 Sprint PCS Fall Tennis Classic. The event, which is hosted by Drake University, will begin on Friday and last through Sunday. There are three singles flights and two doubles flights. Last year Rieke won the singles division and will look to repeat his title this year.
Other teams competing in Des Moines, Iowa, are Creighton, Drake, Marquette and Southwest Missouri State.
