AMES, Iowa -- Nebraska sophomore forward Christine Latham scored two goals on Friday as the third-ranked Husker soccer team notched its 13th shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over Iowa State before a crowd of 526 at the ISU Soccer Complex. With the win, NU finished its regular season 18-1-0 overall and 9-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Iowa State fell to 7-9-2 and 3-6-1.
The Huskers, who clinched the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament with a win over Texas Tech on Oct. 22, will face Kansas at 11 a.m. next Wednesday in the first round of the conference tournament in San Antonio, Texas.
Latham put the Huskers on the board at 8:10, following a corner kick from junior midfielder Meghan Anderson. The ball was headed by sophomore midfielder Kori Saunders before Latham booted it into the net. Her second goal came at 63:46 on a header from junior forward Becky Preston. Anderson also earned an assist, boosting her season point total to 32.
With her fifth multiple-goal game of the season, Latham upped her conference lead to 20 goals and 47 points.
Nebraska senior goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, who has now posted 11 ½ shutouts this season, lowered her conference-leading goals-against average to 0.40.
The Huskers outshot Iowa State, 21-5, and outcornered the Cyclones, 7-2.
