Lubbock, Texas - Nebraska freshman Lindsey Greenwood posted the first multiple-goal game of her career on Sunday as the fourth-ranked Husker soccer team topped Texas Tech, 4-1, at R.P. Fuller Stadium before a crowd of 163. Sophomore forward Christine Latham added a goal and two assists, as NU improved to 17-1-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the Big 12 Conference.
The Red Raiders fell to 4-12-0 and 2-7-0.
Greenwood, who entered the game at 27:12, scored her first goal of the contest when she kicked a rocket past Texas Tech goalkeeper Brittney Peese from just outside the box at 30:30. It marked her second consecutive game with a goal. She scored her second at 32:20 from inside the box following a header from Latham, which gave NU a 2-1 advantage.
Just under a minute into the second half, Latham headed a ball to senior forward Lauren Tatum, who scored her third goal of the season at 45:58.
Latham, who recorded her sixth and seventh assists of the season on Sunday, added her conference-leading 18th goal of the season at 69:04, upping her conference lead in points to 43. The Nebraska school record for points in a season is 61, posted by Kim Engesser in 1998. Latham's season mark currently ranks fifth in school history.
Despite surrendering a goal, Nebraska senior goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc maintained the conference with a goals-against average of 0.43. A Hermann Trophy candidate, LeBlanc has surrendered seven goals in 1,467 minutes this season. The Red Raiders scored their lone goal at 4:16 when freshman forward Ali Jepson kicked a ball over LeBlanc, who was trying to return to the box.
Nebraska, which has now scored
a goal in 33 consecutive games, will return to action on
Friday, when the Huskers travel to Ames, Iowa, for a 7 p.m.
contest against Iowa State.
