Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Juniors Katarina Balan and Amy Frisch of the Nebraka women's tennis team were knocked out of the first qualifying round of the Riviera Women's All-American Championship tournament on Tuesday. Balan and Frisch were defeated 6-1, 6-1, by Texas A&M's tandem of Martina Nedorostova and Majorie Terburgh.
Nebraska's duo advanced to the qualifying round by winning two matches in the pre-qualifying round over the weekend. The Husker duo, who earned a bye in the first round of pre-qualifying, defeated Liesl Fichtbauer and Kelley Ramierz of Fresno State in straight sets (7-6, 6-4) before downing Kiren Fernando and Cynthia Tow of Boston College, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the third round on Sunday.
The Husker tennis team will take a few weeks off before the Nov. 1-5 Rolex Regional match in Omaha, Nebraska's final tournament of the fall.
