Lincoln --Coach Paul Sanderford and the Nebraska women's basketball team are volunteering their time to encourage local elementary students to "Read to Win."
Sanderford and the Huskers will travel to 24 Lincoln-area elementary school for kickoff assemblies in September and October to promote learning with fun. This is the third year that the University of Nebraska Athletic Department has been involved in the "Read to Win" program, and the first time that Coach Sanderford and the women's basketball team have promoted the events.
The students in each grade that read the most pages will get a pair of season tickets for the Nebraska women's basketball season. The school that reads the most pages will get to have Coach Sanderford, the Huskers and Lil' Red at their school for a pep rally.
The contest lasts the entire month of October and will conclude with "Read to Win" Night at Nebraska's season opener with Oakland University in the Time Warner Cable Classic on Nov. 17. At the game, the highest reader in each grade will be recognized for their accomplishment.
