The third-ranked Nebraska soccer team notched its eighth shutout of the year Sunday evening, defeating Creighton, 2-0, before a crowd of 823 at the Abbott Sports Complex. Junior midfielder Meghan Anderson and sophomore defender Breanna Boyd scored goals, as senior goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc extended her scoreless streak to 420:22. With the win, the Huskers improved to 10-0-0, while Creighton fell to 3-7-0.
Both NU goals came in the first half as the Huskers outshot the Bluejays, 17-0, before the break. Creighton did manage two shots in the second half, as LeBlanc recorded her only save of the day.
"I was actually more pleased with how we played in the second half," Nebraska Head Coach John Walker said. "It was a good game for us because we had to compete."
Boyd scored the game winner - and her second goal of the season - on a header at 18:03, following a corner kick from Anderson. NU outcornered Creighton, 10-0.
Anderson launched a rocket into the net at 29:40, solely retaking the conference lead in points from teammate sophomore forward Christine Latham, who assisted Anderson's goal. Latham, who leads the Big 12 with 10 goals, tied Anderson at 21 points with two goals in a win over Baylor on Friday. Anderson now leads the league with 24 points, while Latham has 22. Junior forward Kelly Rheem also earned an assist, upping her point total to 17, which ranks her among the conference's top scorers.
LeBlanc has now posted four consecutive shutouts, upping her season total to 6 ½ games. The Maple Ridge, British Columbia, native lowered her goals-against average to 0.35.
The Huskers will return to action this Friday when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face Missouri at 4 p.m.
