Huskers Gear Up for NCAA Outdoor Championship

Lincoln -- Looking for its first top-five finish since 1992, the Nebraska women's track and field team will send 13 athletes to Durham, N.C., this week for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The meet, held on the Duke University campus, will run Wednesday through Saturday. The Huskers will also send three men to the event.

The Nebraska women are led by junior Melissa Price, the nation's leader in the hammer throw (213-1). Price claimed her first conference title in the event on May 19, with a mark of 201-3 in rainy conditions.

Senior Dalhia Ingram, who nabbed outdoor conference titles in both the long jump and triple jump, will compete in both events this week at Duke. Ingram posted the fourth-best triple jump mark in the nation this year on May 7 (44-4 1/4). Also competing in two events for the Husker women will be senior sprinter Stella Klassen, who will run the 400 meters and anchor NU's 4x400-meter relay team. Klassen finished third in the 400 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in February, while the 4x400-meter relay team placed sixth.

The NU women will also send: redshirt freshman Leann Boerema in the shot put; senior Carrie Braness in the high jump; senior Michelle Brooks in the 3,000 meters; junior Janet Dutton in the heptathlon; sophomore Cheryl Harmon in the 4x400-meter relay; senior Cassi Morelock in the javelin; junior Lesley Owusu in the 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay; sophomore Jelena Stanisavljevic in the 4x400-meter relay; junior Jessica Thompson in the high jump; and junior Erin Wibbels in the hammer.

On the men's side, freshman pole vaulter Eric Eshbach, sophomore high jumper Shaun Kologinczak and senior javelin thrower Cory Lehman will make the trip.

NU Women Sit Second in USTCA Team Power Rankings
The Nebraska women's track and field team currently sits in second - behind UCLA -in the USTCA Team Power Rankings (http://tower.isu.edu/power). UCLA tops the chart with a score of 397.42, while the Huskers check in at 386.43. The NU women also rank seventh in the Trackwire top 25. On the men's side, Nebraska moved to ninth in the power rankings with a score of 359.18.
