Three Huskers Earn Big 12 Individual Champion Honors

Lincoln-In a press release issued today by the Big 12 offices in Dallas, three Husker women's tennis players were named Big 12 champions. At No. 6 singles sophomore Amy Frisch, and at No. 2 doubles, Katarina Balan, and Maria Fernandez.

Frisch earned the honor by completing the regular season with a 8-3 record in conference play edging out Lisa Mallaiah of Kansas, Eva Marcial of Texas A&M, and Claudia Aguilar of Baylor who finished tied for second.

At No. 2 doubles Balan and Fernandez earned individual champion honors by compiling a 9-2 record in conference play edging out Oklahoma State's Faltykova and Chmelova.

Two other Huskers finished second at their respective positions in the Big 12. Senior Sandra Noetzel (9-2 Big 12) was edged out by Baylor's Jahnavi Parekh who finished the season with a 10-1 record in the Big 12. Sophomore Katarina Balan finished second to Texas' Joanne Masongsong at No. 4 singles. Balan compiled an 8-1 record while Masongsong earned a 10-1 record.
