Lincoln-The No. 47 ranked Nebraska women's tennis team had their 14 match winning streak snapped on Sunday as they lost a heartbreaker to Texas A&M 4-5 at Cather-Pound courts. The Aggies jumped out to a 4-2 lead before the Huskers clawed their way back into it.
In singles action senior Sandra Noetzel won her 98th career match by defeating Martina Nedorostova 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Katarina Balan had her undefeated season snapped with a loss to Leah Killen 7-5, 6-0.
Behind 4-2, Nebraska rallied for victories in No. 6 singles, and No. 2 singles. Katarina Balan and Maria Fernandez defeated Cassie Haas and Kathryn Scott 8-3. At No. 6 singles sophmore Amy Frisch outlasted Eva Marcial for the 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory to tie the match at 4-4.
In the days final match junior Ndali Ijomah and freshman Stacey Tomkiewicz jumped out to a 7-1 lead against Olivia Karlikova and Leah Killen but could not hold off Texas A&M's rally as they lost in a tie breaker 9-8.
Nebraska head coach Scott Jacobson said that he is proud of his team. "This team put forth its best effort. You can't put this loss on any one player. We win as a team and we lose as a team. We played hard and our team should hang their head high."
With the loss, Nebraska falls to 15-2 on the season and 3-2 in the Big 12. The Huskers will return to action on Tuesday as they hit the road to face Big 12 foe Missouri at Noon.
