North Carolina Standout Signs Letter of Intent

Lincoln-The Nebraska men's tennis team signed standout Patrick Kennedy, to a national letter of intent this week. This highly decorated junior player from North Carolina signed a national letter of intent to play for the Huskers next year.

Kennedy is the two-time defending North Carolina High School state tennis singles champion. Kennedy is also an outstanding track runner where he earned an all-state selection in cross country last fall and finished third at the state track meet in the 400-meter dash in 1999.

Because of his track career, Kennedy has not played many national -level tournaments in recent years after being a top 30-player nationally in the 14s. He reached the 16-and-under finals of the Fiesta Bowl Classic in 1998 after beating four players ranked in the top 20 in the nation.

Kennedy will join NU's other signee Kyle True of Bowling Green, Ky., who signed with the Huskers in November. True was the top-ranked junior player in Kentucky in his age group for six consecutive years and has been the state high school runner-up at No. 1 singles the past two years.
