Lincoln -- Nebraska will be competing in the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships in Wichita, Kan. on April 26-30. The tournament will be played at the prestigious Northrock Lanes, host of numerous PBA events.
The field will feature 16 teams including No. 4 Arizona State, Ball State, No. 7 California State-Fresno, California State-Sacramento, No. 5 Central Missouri State, Erie Community College, Florida, No. 8 Florida State, Illinois State, No. 6 Indiana State, No. 2 Morehead State, No. 1 Nebraska, Purdue, No. 10 Sacred Heart, West Texas A&M and No. 3 Wichita State.
Qualifying will consist of 32 Baker system games. This will be bowled in two blocks consisting of four four-game Baker matches. Teams will bowl on every pair of lanes in their division, but will not compete with each team. All bowling is on an actual pinfall basis with no bonus pins. After qualifying, teams will be ranked one through 16 in their division based on pinfall. The highest pinfall will be first. Teams will then be seeded into the double elimination brackets based on their rank.
In the first double elimination match, the first ranked team will meet the 16th ranked team; the second ranked team will meet the 15th ranked team, etc.
The double elimination matches will consist of a best four out of seven Baker system games. The first team to win four games advances into the winner's bracket and the other team into the contender's bracket. This format will continue until there is one team in the winner's bracket and one team in the contender's bracket. Two teams per division will advance into the television finals. The television finals will be taped delayed and currently scheduled to air on ESPN2 June 25, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. Central Time.
