Lincoln - After losing four out of the last six matches the No. 64 ranked University of Nebraska women's tennis team will be looking for a win when they close out the regular season on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match with No. 44 Kansas State at Cather-Pound courts.
The match will be the last home match ever for Husker seniors Sandra Noetzel and team captain Gina Pelazini. Noetzel will leave Nebraska as the winningest player in the team's history. Over her career she h as won 102 matches (as of April 16) which is the most in Husker history.
Nebraska head coach Scott Jacobson says that his team has dedicated this last match to the seniors. "They are two very special people who have dedicated themselves to the sport. Gina has been like a coach out there and has helped to build team unity. Sandra committed herself last summer to making her senior year her best season and she has done that."
Kansas State comes into the match with a 12-7 record including 7-3 in the Big 12 conference. The Wildcats have lost three straight matches including losses to Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas. Kansas State has beaten two opponents that the Huskers could not. State beat Baylor and Oklahoma 5-4 while the Huskers fell to Baylor 8-1 and Oklahoma 5-4. The Huskers will need to beat Kansas State and get a little help from Texas and Texas A&M if it hopes to beat out Kansas for the No. 6 seed in next weeks Big 12 conference tournament in Kansas City.
