Huskers Win Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

Norman, Okla. - Despite partly cloudy skies and winds out of the north at 15-20 mph, the Nebraska women's golf team shot rounds of 322-302-306 to finish in first place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla., Tuesday afternoon.

The victory marks the third tournament title for the Huskers this season. During the fall campaign Nebraska won the Big 12 Fall Preview by nine strokes at the Country Club of Lincoln in Lincoln, Neb. Nebraska followed the Big 12 Fall Preview with a 13-stroke victory at the Lady Razorback Invitational at the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark.

The Huskers, who placed four golfers in the top 10 of the Berning Classic, were led by sophomore Sarah Sasse (Lincoln, Neb.). Sasse fired a score of 229, seven strokes behind leader Ali Brewer of Baylor. Senior Elizabeth Bahensky (Kearney, Neb.) finished with a score of 231, good for a share of third place. Sophomore Catha Fogelberg (Helsingborg, Sweden) and junior Amy Roux (Kearney, Neb.) rounded out the Husker lineup with scores of 236, good for a share of ninth place. The Huskers will next travel to Lubbock, Texas, on April 21-23 for the Big 12 Championship. Nebraska won the 1999 Big 12 Fall Preview by nine strokes.
