Lincoln -- Sophomore Marcus Witter became the NU men's first distance runner to record a provisional mark this season with a 29th-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. Competing against many of the nation's best runners - collegiate and professional - Witter finished in 29:34.68, which was good for fourth in his heat.
The Kearney, Neb., native bettered his previous personal-best mark by nearly 2 1/2 minutes and moved to No. 3 on Nebraska's all-time list. Cleophas Boor posted the best mark in school history in 1998 (28.50.90), followed by Wally Duffy, who ran a time of 29:22.6 in 1984.
