Dallas -- Nebraska freshman left-handed pitcher Jamie Rodrigue was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after shutting out Oklahoma on Saturday, 12-0. A native of St. Clair, Mo., Rodrigue fired a five-hit, 12-0 shutout over seven innings in Lincoln, while allowing five hits and striking out three for the Huskers, who went 4-1 with two wins over Arkansas and the Sooners.
He also became just one of six pitchers in school history to throw two shutouts in a season and did so in back-to-back outings. Rodrigue was fresh off a 16-0 victory vs. Kansas State on March 11 and improved to 3-0 in Big 12 play. The yearling is the first NU pitcher to throw two shutouts in a single season against conference schools and the initial Husker freshman to toss back-to-back shutouts. He has not allowed a run (earned or unearned) in 14 consecutive innings and has allowed just nine total hits in his last 20 innings of work -- all against Big 12 competition.
Rodrigue is now 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in the Big 12. In his three Big 12 appearances, he has given up just nine hits and two runs in 20 innings of work for a 0.95 ERA.
Nebraska is 14-7 and 5-4 in the Big 12 Conference. The Huskers will face No. 18 Creighton Tuesday, March 21 at the Creighton Sports Complex at 2:30 p.m
