NU sophomore golfer wins Longhorn Classic; Huskers take sixth

Lincoln -- Nebraska's Sarah Sasse tied for first with a seven-over-par score of 223 at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic in Austin, Texas. The Lincoln native fired a four-over-par 76 in Sunday's final round following rounds of 73 on Friday and 74 on Saturday. Sasse, a sophomore who shared or held the lead at the end of each round, tied New Mexico State's Sasha Medina for the win - four strokes ahead of San Jose State's Rebecka Heinmert, who finished at 227.

San Jose State won the tournament with 923 strokes, followed by Texas at 930, Texas Christian at 932, New Mexico State at 934, Purdue at 936, and Nebraska, which shot a score of 945.

The Huskers were also helped by senior Elizabeth Bahensky, from Kearney, who tied for 10th individually with a 15-over-par score of 231. Bahensky posted rounds of 79, 76 and 76, to finish eight strokes behind Sasse.

NU's Catha Fogelberg shot an 83 on Sunday to boost her three-day-total to 242. The Husker sophomore, from Helsingborg, Sweden, finished tied for 37th. Husker junior Amy Roux, from Lincoln, shot rounds of 84, 82 and 83 for a score of 249, while sophomore Amanda Sutcliffe posted rounds of 91, 83 and 84 for a score of 258.

Nebraska will return to action on April 10-11, when the Huskers travel to Norman, Okla., for the Oklahoma Invitational.
