Lincoln -- Nebraska's Charlie Rogers and Jennifer Jaracz earned first-team academic All-Big 12 Conference honors when the league announced its women's basketball all-academic teams on Tuesday.
Rogers, a 6-2 senior forward/center from South Sioux City, Neb., was one of only three student-athletes to earn special recognition on the squad by earning a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in each of her last two semesters. An elementary education major, Rogers was also one of only four student-athletes who earned a fourth consecutive academic all-conference award. Missouri senior guard Julie Helm and Texas A&M junior foward Kera Alexander also earned 4.0 GPAs, while Missouri's Amy Monsees and Ekpe Akpaffiong and Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow joined Rogers as four-time academic all-conference honorees.
Jaracz, a 6-0 sophomore forward from Crestwood, Ky., earned her second first-team honor as a special education major. Jaracz was one of 34 repeat performers from previous women's basketball academic all-conference teams.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the women's basketball academic all-league squad consisted of 33 first-team members with 12 on the second-team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point average, while the second-team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
