Nebraska rolls past UT-San Antonio, 10-1

San Antonio, Texas - The University of Nebraska bounced back from a disappointing loss on Friday night to roll past Texas-San Antonio, 10-1. The Husker offense came to life as nine different players combined for 14 hits, including four hits and a career-high four stolen bases from sophomore John Cole. Nebraska had at least one hit in six different innings.

"I thought our starting pitching was outstanding once again," said Head Coach Dave Van Horn. "We got off to a quick start which allowed us to utilize our speed. I was glad to see us bounce back after a disappointing loss. It was a different feel offensively. We were seeing the ball better and swinging the bats better."

Freshman Jamie Rodrigue (1-1) earned his first win of the season after allowing just five hits through seven innings. He allowed just one unearned run ad struck out six Roadrunners. Steve Hale threw his ninth consecutive scoreless inning in the eighth frame and freshman Waylon Byers closed the game for his first appearance of the season.

The Huskers scored three runs in the second inning after a leadoff double from Justin Cowan. Senior Jim Bailey drew a walk and the Huskers loaded the bases after Brandt Vlieger drew a walk. Sophomore Adam Stern singled through the left side to score Cowan and Vlieger. Bolt followed up with an RBI single to five Nebraska a 3-0 lead.

Nebraska tacked on three more runs in the third after a triple from Bailey scored Cole. Junior Dan Wright hit an estimated 410-foot home run to left center to score Bailey and put the Huskers up 6-0. After jumping out to an 8-0 lead, the Roadrunners took advantage of a walk, a double and an error from Bolt to score their only run of the game. Nebraska capped its 10-run performance with two runs off three hits and two UTSA errors in the top of the ninth inning.

Nebraska top five batters, who combined to go 1-for-19 at the plate in Friday's loss to UTSA, recorded 10 hits Saturday. Cole's four stolen bases were the most by a Husker since Jed Dalton stole four vs. Nebraska-Omaha on March 16, 1995, and were one shy of tying the school single-game record. As a team, Nebraska had eight stolen bases, matching its 1999 season high.

UTSA's Robert Moreno (0-2) was charged with the loss after yielding six runs off seven hits in the first four innings.

The Huskers, 5-3, will try to win the series on Sunday as the two team's will send their two aces to the mound. Shane Komine (1-0, 2.45 ERA) will throw for the Huskers, while Eric Montoya (2-1, 3.00 ERA) will take the mound for UTSA (4-8).
