Huskers Faring Well at Midlands Tournament

Evanston, Ill.--Members of the eighth-ranked Nebraska wrestling team are faring well at the Midlands Tournament in Evanston, Ill. The tournament hosted by Northwestern University runs through tomorrow, Dec. 30, with the finals being held at 7:30 p.m.

Second-ranked Bryan Snyder continued his unbeaten ways picking up three more victories to improve to 16-0 on the year. In the first round, Snyder, the tournaments No. 3 seed at 157 pounds, defeated Shaun Shapert of Edinboro, 16-8. After defeating Mike Kelly of Eastern Illinois, 14-8, in the second round, Snyder advanced to the quaterfinals with an 8-2 decision over Dom Dellagatta of Montclair State.

At 197 pounds, junior Brad Vering earned two wins on his way to the quarterfinals improving his overall record to 13-1. In Verings first match, he defeated Robert Odell of Cal St.-Bakersfield with a 12-2 major decision. Vering, who is currently ranked third at 197 pounds, advanced to the quarterfinals by pinning Nick Britton of Iowa State 1:50 into the match.

After winning his first match, sophomore Joe Henson fell short in his bid to upset the No. 2 wrestler at 149 pounds. Henson, who is ranked ninth, fell to second-ranked Adam Tripelle of Illinois, 3-2.
