Meendering Garners First-Team All-America Honors

Honolulu, Hawaii -- Nebraska junior rightside hitter Nancy Meendering became the eighth player in Nebraska volleyball history to earn two first-team All-America certificates as she was named the to AVCA Division I All-America Team on Wednesday. A 6-1 native of Hull, Iowa, Meendering earned the award for the second straight year after being named the 1999 Big 12 Player of the Year. Other Huskers to earn two first-team All-America awards are Fiona Nepo, Lisa Reitsma, Allison Weston, Christy Johnson, Stephanie Thater, Janet Kruse and Val Novak.

Meendering set single-season school records for kills per game (5.09) and attacks per game (12.17) this season in leading the Huskers to their second straight Big 12 title and 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Nebraska finished with a 27-6 record and a 17-3 Big 12 mark and advanced to the NCAA Pacific Regional semifinals. Meendering finished the season with 580 kills on 1,386 attacks and hit .303 for the season. She also led the team in blocks (153) and was third on the team in total digs (320). Meendering led the Huskers in kills in 30 of 33 matches and also set the school single-match record with 39 kills against Kansas State earlier this season.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association will present the 19th annual All-America awards Friday at the AVCA All-America/Player of the Year banquet at the Hawaiian Regent.
