Two Huskers Earn All-America Honors

Lincoln -- A pair of Husker defensive backs were honored Wednesday, as Ralph and Mike Brown both earned first-team All-America honors. Ralph Brown was selected by Football News, while Mike Brown was chosen by the Football Writers of America (FWAA). The two All-America teams are the first of several teams released in the next two weeks.

A four-year starter, Ralph Brown has 28 tackles (17 solo), including two for nine yards loss, as he has led the Blackshirts to a top five ranking in all four defensive categories this season. In 10 games, Brown, a two-time All-Big 12 selection, has 10 pass breakups, two interceptions for 66 yards, a fumble return for 26 yards and a touchdown on a blocked punt. He holds school records for pass breakups in a game (seven), season (14) and career (45). Brown, who is one of four captains for the third-ranked Huskers, was also a Thope Award semifinalist this season.

A three-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, Mike Brown leads the team with 74 tackles and could become just the fourth Husker, and only the second defensive back, to lead NU in tackles for three straight years. He has 74 tackles (42 solo), seven tackles for loss, a team-best five interceptions for 40 yards, five pass breakups, a team-leading four forced fumbles, one recovered fumble and one sack this season. A co-captain, Brown has led NU in tackles four times this year and has assisted the Huskers to top-five rankings in all four statistical categories, including a No. 2 ranking in total defense.
