Dallas -- For the second straight week, quarterback Eric Crouch and rover Mike Brown were selected as the Big 12's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week after leading the Huskers to a 41-15 win over previous undefeated Kansas State last Saturday.
Crouch, increased his career-best rushing total in one game to 158 yards on 27 carries with two touchdowns of 30 and 18 yards. He was also 8-for-17 passing for 69 yards while converting a pair of critical, 4th-and-1 situations with some of his 124 net yards rushing in the first half alone. The Huskers' quarterback notched an opponent's individual high for the 1999 campaign with his 158-yard total and moved into seventh place among all Huskers' quarterbacks in career rushing yards with 1,153. It was Crouch's second straight 100-yard rushing day as he leads NU with 694 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns.
Mike Brown helped Nebraska limit the Wildcats to 92 net rushing yards and 142 passing while registering six tackles, forcing one fumble, recovering another fumble, and intercepting a pass in earning his third Big 12 honor of the season. Brown also had a kickoff return for 11 yards, but was the spiritual leader of a Huskers' defense that paced NU to a 24-9 lead at intermission. He caused and recovered an Adam Helm fumble on the same play in the fourth quarter to set up a Josh Brown field goal to give the Huskers a 27-9 cushion against their Top 10 foe. Brown led a Husker defense which forced five turnovers and forced K-State quarterbacks to just 7-of-31 passing. It is the fourth time this season a Huskers has earned conference weekly honors, as Julius Jackson also earned Big 12 honors in the 20-13 win over Southern Miss in September.
Oklahoma State's Terence Richardson was also honored as the Big 12 Specialty Teams Player of the Week, returning six punts for 160 yards in the Cowboys 45-13 win over Kansas.
