Lincoln --The Nebraska rifle team will compete in two matches this weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 5, the team will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, to compete in the Walsh Invitational at Xavier University. The invitational is the largest indoor rifle match in the nation.
Nebraska enters the match on a roll after sweeping the triangular at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Huskers will attempt to capture their fourth consecutive overall match title this season. However, Nebraska will face some stiff competition in Xavier, which finished seventh at the NCAA Championships last season.
At the Walsh Invitational last year, Rachel Spiry led the Huskers with scores of 350 in the air rifle and 1041 in the smallbore.
On Sunday, the team will compete in Lexington, Ky., at the University of Kentucky Invitational Rifle Match.
Last year at the Kentucky Invitational, Spiry again led the Huskers with scores of 366 in the air rifle and 1054 in the smallbore.
Phenomenal Freshman
Freshman Nicole Allaire has won five individual titles to date,
her only blemish on a perfect record is a second place finish in the
air rifle discipline in the first match of the season.
Sharp Shooters
Two Huskers have shot personal bests this year against King's College.
Freshman Nicole Allaire fired a 395 out of 400 in the air rifle to win
the event while sophomore Terim Richards shot a 390 to take second place.
