Emporia, Kan. -- The Nebraska cross country team sent eight runners to the Emporia State Cross Country Invitational on Friday, Oct. 1.
Competing as individuals, Husker runners placed in the top 10 in both events. Jenna Lucas was the Huskers' top runner, taking second place in a time of 18:51. Deb Osteen took fifth (19:27) while Amie Finkner finished 10th (19:42). Christy Linnell just missed the top 10, finishing 11th in 19:44. Emporia State's Tara Hudspeth won the 5,000-meter event in 28:38.
On the men's side, James DeBruhl was the only Husker to crack the top 10, finishing seventh in 26:14. Hunter Kosman took 21st in 27:01 while Ian Gray, competing in his first collegiate race, placed 28th in 27:15. Rounding out the Husker squad was Todd Tripple, who finished 45th in 27:57. Elias Thuo of Butler County CC won the 8,000-meter event in 25:47.
The Huskers are next in action Saturday, Oct. 9, when they travel to University Park, Pa. for the National Invitational meet.
