Jackson Earns Big 12 Honor

Dallas, Texas -- Nebraska linebacker Julius Jackson has been selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Huskers' 20-13 victory over Southern Mississippi Saturday.

Jackson was a literal one-man wrecking crew, returning a 28-yard pass interception return for a TD, which proved to be the game winning score. Earlier, the linebacker returned a fumble 16 yards for a touchdown while becoming the first NU defensive player to score two defensive TDs in the same game in at least 35 years. Jackson missed a portion of the second quarter with a bruised knee but still had a hand in five total tackles, including three solos., to help the Blackshirts hold the Golden Eagles to 25 yards on the ground. He is the second Husker to earn defensive honors in the first three weeks, joining senior rover Mike Brown, who was honored after NU's 42-7 win at Iowa on Sept. 4.

Other players selected for conference honors this week are Oklahoma junior quarterback Josh Heupel, who was Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, and Colorado senior kicking specialist Jeremy Aldrich, who was the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week.
