Dallas -- University of Nebraska rover Mike Brown earned another honor Monday as the senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., was selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Huskers' 42-7 win over Iowa.
A member of the preseason Thorpe Award "Watch List," Brown spearheaded a Husker defense that allowed just 169 total yards, including just 112 through the air. The senior finished with a game-high eight tackles, including three solos, as the Husker defense held the Hawkeyes without a first down for the first 27 minutes of the game. Against NU, Iowa quarterbacks completed just 11-of-30 passes, to hold the Iowa offense scoreless in the contest. In addition, Brown also made a devastating block on Keyuo Craver's 15 yard punt return in the third quarter.
In addition to Brown, Texas quarterback Major Applewhite and Texas A&M kicker Terence Kitchens were also honored by the Big 12 for their performances over the weekend.
The Huskers, ranked fifth (AP) and sixth (Coaches) nationally, play host to California this Saturday, Sept. 11, at 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised regionally by ABC with Keith Jackson and Bob Griese calling the action.
