Komine Named Freshman All-American

Lincoln - University of Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine (Honolulu, Hawaii) was named a Freshman All-American by the staff of Collegiate Baseball Friday afternoon.

The Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Komine went 6-2 with a 3.58 earned-run average in 18 appearances, including 11 starts in 1999, helping the Huskers to the Big 12 postseason title and a bid in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1985.

Despite a back injury which limited Komine to three appearances in May, the right-hander finished the season with a team-high 79 strikeouts, including a season-best 16 at Iowa State in April. Komine led the team in strikeouts, saves (two) and ERA, and was tied for second with his six wins. In addition, Komine allowed just one earned run in 23 innings of relief, while opposing hitters just .281 against him on the season.
