Gainesville, Fla.-Junior Sandra Noetzel was defeated today in the first round of the 1999 NCAA Division I Women's Individual Tennis Championships in Gainesville, Fla. Noetzel had her season ended by Julie Ditty of Vanderbilt, a top-16 seed, in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 4-6.
A Hannover, Germany, native, Noetzel earned first-team All-Big 12 honors this season and was the first singles player in Nebraska history to earn an NCAA individual bid. Noetzel earned the bid by posting an 18-2 mark against regional opponents. Currently ranked No. 71 by the ITA, Noetzel is the all-time leader in singles wins at the University of Nebraska with 77. Noetzel finishes the 1998-99 campaign with a 30-9 record.
