Huskers Break Into All Three Baseball Polls

Lincoln, Neb. -- On the strength of an 11-game winning streak and a three-game sweep against Texas over the weekend, the Nebraska baseball team earned a spot in the top 25 of all three major college baseball polls on Monday. The Huskers are ranked 22nd in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll, 18th in Baseball America and are No. 19 in Collegiate Baseball.

Nebraska 20-6 overall after winning 16 of its last 17 games, is on top of the Big 12 Conference with an 8-1 record.

In the Baseball America Top 25, Nebraska earned the No. 18 spot in the poll. It is the first time since April 11, 1988 that the Huskers have cracked the Baseball America Poll. Other Big 12 teams ranked include, sixth-ranked Texas A&M, 12th-ranked Baylor, No. 13 Texas and 16th-ranked Texas Tech.

The Huskers jumped up 11 spots in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 on Monday. Nebraska is 19th this week after being ranked 30th a week ago. Other Big 12 teams ranked in the Collegiate Baseball poll include 13th-ranked Baylor, No. 16 Texas, 17th-ranked Texas A&M, 21st-ranked Texas Tech and No. 29 Oklahoma State.

In the ESPN Coaches Poll, the Huskers are ranked 22nd this week after garnering 10 votes for the top 25 a week ago. Other Big 12 teams ranked are Texas A&M at No.8, Texas at 14, Baylor at 17 and Texas Tech at No. 20.

Florida State (29-3) is a unanimous No. 1 in the Coaches Poll receiving all 40 first-place votes and the Seminoles are the top-ranked team in the other two polls.

The Huskers play three games at nationally-ranked Texas A&M beginning Friday night at 7 at Olsen Field in College Station, Texas. NU and the Aggies play a doubleheader on Saturday.
