Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team faces a tough and long weekend when they play three matches in two days. The Huskers will look to continue their winning ways on Friday when they take on Big 12 rival Missouri at 5 p.m. Then on Saturday, NU has a double dual with Gustavus Adolphus at 10 a.m. and Northern Iowa at 3 p.m. All three matches will be played at the Woods Tennis Center.
On Friday, Nebraska takes on a much improved Missouri team that went 0-15 last year. This season Missouri is 6-6. Nebraska Head Coach Scott Jacobson is impressed with the Tiger turnaround.
"They are so much better than a year ago," Jacobson said. "Blake (Starkey) has one a great job building their program."
On Saturday, the Huskers face the task of playing two matches in one day starting with Gustavus Adolphus and then Northern Iowa. Jacobson feels it will be a good test for the Huskers.
"It will be a good test of endurance for us," Jacobson said. "We will find out how well conditioned we really are on Saturday."
This weekend will also test freshmen Amy Frisch and Katarina Balan. The duo both suffered injuries in last weekends matches (Frisch-Knee and Balan-Ankle). Jacobson thinks both should be back for this weekend's matches.
"Amy's knee is feeling a lot better and Katarina has been taking good care of her ankle," Jacobson said. "They should both be back to 100 percent by this weekend."
Nebraska's No. 1 doubles team of junior Sandra Noetzel and sophomore Ndali Ijomah will be looking to continue their five-match winning streak. The duo started off the year with a win against Iowa, then went on a five-match losing streak, before winning five straight. In singles, freshman Amy Frisch also will be looking to extend her five match winning streak at No. 6 singles. Frisch is tied for the team lead in singles victories, sporting an 8-3 record this spring.
This weekend will be NU's final homestand before hitting the road for four of its next five matches. Next weekend, NU will travel to Hilton Head, S.C. for two matches against Vermont and George Washington. The Huskers then return home for a match with Colorado State before hitting the road again for two tough Big 12 matches against Kanasas and Kansas State.
