Husker Divers Qualify for NCAAs

Fayetteville, Ark. -- NU senior diver Danny Bergman qualified for the NCAA Championships, finishing fifth on the three-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone D qualifying meet on Saturday.

Bergman, a senior captain from Alpine, Utah, tallied an 11-dive score of 555.85, securing himself a NCAA Championship bid for the third-consecutive season. Bergman will join teammate Erik Cook, who qualified with a third-place showing on the one meter yesterday, at the NCAA Championships, March 25-27 in Indianapolis, Ind. Cook finished fourth in today's three-meter event (560.10)

Troy Dumais of Texas won the competition with a score of 689.50, while Mark Naftanel of Texas A&M placed second (589.20). NU freshman Gabe Downey placed seventh with a score of 498.60.

Sophomore Lincoln native Amanda Zins rang up an 11-dive score of 374.70 to place eighth in the women's one-meter competition. Texas' Laura Wilkinson, yesterday's three-meter winner, won with a score of 461.45. Jenny Lingamfelter of SMU placed second with a total of 450.50.

Other NU finishers in the women's one-meter competition included Molly McDonald (16th, 335.55) and Samantha Ashley 23rd (302.05).

Fayetteville, Ark. -- NU Junior diver Erik Cook qualified for the NCAA Championships, placing third in the one-meter springboard competition at the NCAA Zone D qualifying meet on Friday.

Cook a junior from Aurora, Colorado, registered an 11-dive score of 539.10. Texas' freshman Troy Dumais won the event with a score of 573.35. Mark Naftanel of Texas A&M finished second with a total of 564.50. The top three finishers automatically advance to the men's NCAA Championships, March 25-27, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Senior All American and two-time NCAA qualifier Danny Bergman placed eighth in the competition with a total of 479.10 points. Freshman Gabe Downey finished 13th (408.30).

Sophomore Lincoln native Amanda Zins tallied an 11-dive score of 474.45 to place seventh in the women's three-meter competition. Texas' Laura Wilkinson, coming off a Big 12 Championship in the event, won with a score of 533.90. Jenny Lingamfelter of SMU (530.65) and Noel Lewandowski of Houston (515.00) finished second and third, respectively, securing spots at the women's NCAA Championships, March 18-20, in Athens, Ga.

Other NU finishers in the women's one-meter competition included Molly McDonald (15th, 416.30), Samantha Ashley (22nd, 368.30) and Tami Bernth (28th, 332.30).
