No. 20 Huskers Fly over North Texas 85-67

Lincoln - Junior guard Brooke Schwartz paced four Huskers in double figures as No. 20 Nebraska defeated North Texas 85-67 in front of 2,708 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Sunday afternoon.

Schwartz had 18 of her 20 points in the second half as Nebraska improved to 10-1 on the year, tying the 1996-97 team for the best 11-game start in school history.

"For some reason, I seemed to have more energy in the second half," Schwartz said. "I  knew they weren't going to back off anybody and it fired me up. We picked up our defense and that got me going and when my defense goes well, the offense comes along."

Nebraska, which did not trail during the contest, used a 10-0 run midway through the first half to push the NU lead to 21-11 on a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Amanda Went. Nebraska had its best day from 3-point range, hitting 6-of-8 from beyond the arc and held a double-digit lead for most of the game.

In addition to Schwartz, Naciska Gilmore added 12 points, while Went and junior center Charlie Rogers added 10 points apiece. Rogers also finished with 10 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Junior guard Nicole Kubik, who leads the nation with 55 steals, had a career-high nine steals, while chipping in nine points and seven assists.

The Huskers have won six straight games and improved their home-winning streak to 22 games.

"We were a little out of sync all day, but we were agressive," Nebraska Head Coach Paul Sanderford said.

Jalie Mitchell led North Texas (7-3) with 15 points, but had just two in the second half. Teri Gunnels and Rosalyn Reades also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Nebraska returns to action on Monday, Dec. 28, when Nebraska travels to Louisville, Ky., for the Seelbach Classic. Nebraska faces Kent State in the first round at 4 p.m., while the Cardinals play host to Eastern Kentucky in the other first-round matchup at 6:30 p.m.
