The No. 17 Nebraska soccer team suffered its second loss of the season with a 5-1 loss at No. 25 UCLA in front of 650 fans at Spaulding Field in Los Angeles on Friday, Sept. 18.
The Huskers trailed 2-0 at halftime against the Bruins despite dominating the action in the field for the entire first half. Nebraska outshot the Bruins 7-3 in the first half, but the Bruins capitalized on both of their scoring opportunities.
Larisa Kiremidjian scored UCLA's first goal at 2:04, but from that point the rest of the half was spent on UCLA's end of the field, with the exception of a corner kick in the 38th minute. That corner kick was enough to give the Bruins a two-goal cushion, as Tracey Milburn found the back of the net at 38:33, after Breana Boling's shot caromed off the near post.
UCLA's Venus James put the game out of reach with her goal at 56:10, before Kiremidjian added her second goal at 66:40.
Engesser scored her fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick at 69:51, before UCLA's Staci Duncan closed the scoring with her goal at 74:11.
Duncan's goal, which came with the Huskers competing at a one-player disadvantage with ejection of LeBlanc, was the first goal allowed by Anderson.
