Huskers Dispose of Buckeyes, 230.675-230.175
The top-ranked Nebraska men's gymnastics team improved to 10-4 on the season with a 230.675-230.175 victory over No. 4 Ohio State in front of 268 fans on March 8.
The Huskers started quickly, setting a school record of 38.975 on the floor exercise during the evening's first rotation. The score bettered the old record of 38.85, set at the 1997 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. Senior Bill Mulholland posted a career-best score of 9.775 on floor to tie NU junior Marshall Nelson and Ohio State's Michael Morgan for first on the apparatus. Mulholland, competing in his final home event at NU, finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 56.575.
Nelson and junior Jim Koziol also took top individual honors for NU. Nelson finished first on pommel horse with a 9.75, while Koziol, a junior from Omaha, posted a career-best score of 9.775 to take first on still rings.
Ohio State freshman Jamie Natalie won the all-around with a 57.95, edging NU's Jason Hardabura and Derek Leiter. Natalie took first place on vault (9.775) and parallel bars (9.85), while Buckeye Doug Stibel finished first on the horizontal bar (9.90) and second on vault (9.75). Hardabura, who finished second on horizontal bar with a 9.825, scored a 57.575 to take second, while Leiter, who was the runner up on pommel horse (9.725), placed third with a 57.525.
