No. 3 Nebraska Defeats Minnesota 229.575-221.275
The third-ranked Nebraska men's gymnastics team improved to 7-4 on the season with a 229.575-221.275 victory at No. 15 Minnesota Friday evening.
The Huskers were led by sophomore all-arounder Derek Leiter (Lincoln, Neb), who scored a season-best score of 57.50. It is the second time this season the Lincoln Southeast graduate scored a 57.40 or higher this season. Leiter also took top honors on vault with a 9.80 and placed second on both floor exercise (9.725) and high bar (9.45).
The Huskers took the top five spots in the all-around, as Marshall Nelson finished second with a career-high score of 56.975, edging out senior Bill Mulholland, who finished with a 56.90. In all, NU's five all-arounders scored a 56.30 or higher, as Jason Hardabura and junior Jim Koziol posted scores of 56.80 and a 56.30, respectively.
In the individual events, Nelson, the defending NCAA Champion on the horizontal bar and the parallel bars, won three individual titles, as the Huskers took top honors on five of the six events. Nelson finished first on floor exercise (9.775), parallel bars (9.85) and on high bar (9.75), while placing second on pommel horse (9.60) and vault (9.60). Hardabura, who had a season-best score of 57.30 last weekend, captured NU's final crown with a career-high 9.70 on still rings.
