Although the score didn't show it, the Huskers played well throughout the match. Nebraska dominated the first 15 minutes of play, with three excellent scoring opportunities, two of which sophomore striker Lindsay Eddleman was unable to convert. The Huskers did not allow the Irish a single shot until the 17:10 mark when Meotis Erickson fired a blast from 30 yards out that got past Husker goalkeeper Rebecca Hornbacher. Minutes later, Eddleman aggravated an ankle sprain that originally occurred during the Big 12 Championship game. Eddleman was forced out of action for the remainder of the contest, and the Irish waisted little time in taking advantage of her absence. Anne Makinen scored Notre Dame's second goal at 23:39 and Holly Manthei added a third score 1:05 later. The Fighting Irish added three second-half goals to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals. Nebraska attempted the third most shots against the Irish on the season, trailing only No. 1 North Carolina's and Washington's 11 shots. Nebraska also allowed the fourth-fewest shots by the Irish, trailing only North Carolina's 11, No. 5 Connecticut's 13 and No. 6 Portland's 22. A week after defeating the Huskers, Notre Dame advanced to the NCAA semifinals with an 8-0 win over UCLA. The Irish outshot the Bruins, 32-4.
