The No. 7 Huskers improved to 3-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including a perfect 3-0 mark at the Abbott Sport Complex with a 5-1 pounding of Big Ten Champion No. 15 Michigan in the tournament's first round. Kim Engesser scored three goals for her third hat trick of the season and Lindsay Eddleman added two goals, including the game winner, and an assist to help the Huskers stretch their home winning streak to 27 games.
Unseeded Nebraska advanced to the second round with the third-largest margin of victory in the tournament's first round to face No. 2 seed Notre Dame. The Irish advanced with a 7-1 win over unranked Cincinnati, while No. 1 seed North Carolina defeated unranked Wake Forest, 6-0.
